Ex Local Government Boss To Pay Back N128million For Failing To Complete Contracts

A former chairman of Atakumosa-West Local Government Council, Mr. Supo Fadare, has been ordered to refund over N128m being excess amount received on a contract.

Osun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, said this on Friday.

The commissioner said the contract was allegedly awarded to three companies of the former council chairman by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Osun State chapter.

Alimi said the money used to execute the contract was sourced from Excess Crude Oil fund released to Osun ALGON between 2007 and 2010.

The commissioner said a committee inaugurated by Governor Rauf Aregbesola had verified that the projects were executed with the ECO funds.

Another contractor, Mr. Kayode Igbalaye, who jointly got N1.35bn for rural electrification with Fadare, was reportedly vindicated by the verification commission.

A statement by Alimi said, "The three companies owned by Igbalaye performed well having justified the 90 per cent contract sum already paid to his three companies.

"The companies, which have not totally abandoned the projects sites, should move back to site in full force and ensure completion within six weeks.

"However, the contract with Fadare’s companies has been revoked on the basis of non-performance. Agencies of Osun State government are hereby warned not to have anything to do with the companies."
