The lecture takes place today at Rodizzio Hall, Ikeja. Last week, two respected men of God, Pastor Wole Oladiyun, the Senior Pastor of the fast growing Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) and Pastor Amos Fenwa, the Founder of the Holy Ghost Christian Centre visited City Peoples corporate office to hold special prayers for members of staff.
The two pastors held one hour special sessions each on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, thus heralding activities marking the 15th anniversary of City People. A few weeks ago, the management of City People organised a three-day retreat for the workers in Accra, Ghana to kick start the anniversary. Also, last week Friday, City People hosted a mega anniversary concert with Port HarcourtÕs first SonÓ, Duncan Mighty with six other artistes performing at Ember Creek, Awolowo Way, Ikoyi, Lagos.
These activities were preceded by an anniversary beach party on October 29, 2011 at the popular Oniru Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos. On Sunday, November, 13, 2011, an anniversary bash, City People Anniversary Party holds at the newly opened Event Centre at Ikeja G.R.A, The Haven, on Oba Akinjobi Road, Beside Archbishop Vining Church, Ikeja, G.R.A., Lagos. The Haven was recently established by the management of the popular Balmoral Events Centre. City People is a magazine which has sought to enthrone a people-centered reporting of events.
Through the publication, it has made people return as the object and subject of journalism. We are fired by the conviction that Nigerias magazine journalism today has run itself into a dead end, was how the Publisher/Editor-in- Chief, Dr. Seye Kehinde explained it. ÒAs such, there was the need for a drastic shift that would restore the primacy of a vigorous probing tradition and the relentless passion of a human reference. We believed then that the tepidity and boredom in Nigeria magazine reporting as at that time was the foolhardy and doomed insistence on an issue-centered presentation of people and events.
Our goal has been to publish a weekly magazine designed to mirror the lives of people: the way they live, what they wear, what they eat, the type of music they listen to, etc. Through City People, searchlight is beamed on the lives of the rich and the poor; the high and the low.
The magazine has been painstakingly produced, page after page, to reach the highest levels of journalism and technical excellence obtainable anywhere in the world. It encourages the tradition of gusty and provocative reporting. The magazine does not attempt to compete with daily newspapers in its presentation of news, but pays attention to the lives of those who make the news. All the magazine seeks to do therefore, is to use people to examine issues. City People magazine, week in-week out, is presented in such an easy-toread fashion that literally lifts the messages off our pages straight into the minds of our readers.
The style of writing is breezy, racy and smooth-flowing. It is short and straight to the point. Brevity is the watchword. The magazines layout is snazzy, unique and attractive. Pictures are generously used. Every week, we attempt to blend the serious and light in a way that makes all stories attain the required balance. We strive not only to provide the whys and wherefores of events, but also provide useful insights into those behind these events in a refreshing manner.
